Dubai Regulates Enforcement Officer Camera Usage to Protect Data Privacy

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed issues new regulations governing camera use and data privacy for Dubai's judicial officers.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, has issued Administrative Decision No. (18) of 2024, establishing new regulations for the use of cameras by enforcement officers. The resolution mandates how judicial officers document violations and manage digital evidence across the emirate. Operational Protocols for Judicial Officers The new legal framework applies to all government employees in Dubai authorized to act as judicial officers. Under the resolution, these officers must use government-issued cameras exclusively for documenting professional violations and interactions. The law strictly prohibits the use of personal devices for official enforcement duties or the use of official cameras for non-professional purposes. Enforcement officers are required to inform individuals that they are being recorded, except in specific scenarios where the nature of the violation requires immediate, unannounced documentation.
