Dubai Police has issued a fresh warning to motorists regarding the dangers of failing to maintain a safe distance between vehicles, identifying tailgating as a leading cause of fatal accidents in the emirate. The General Department of Traffic confirmed that the violation carries a mandatory fine of AED 400 and the imposition of four black points on a driver’s license. Strict Penalties and Monitoring The authority noted that smart camera systems and traffic patrols are actively monitoring Dubai’s highways to detect distance violations. Under Federal Traffic Law, tailgating is classified as a major offense due to its role in high-speed collisions. In addition to the AED 400 fine, police have the authority to impound vehicles in cases where the driving behavior is deemed to pose an immediate threat to public safety.
