Dubai Municipality launches Legathon to reform construction technology regulations

Dubai Municipality has launched the first "Future of Construction Legathon" at Emirates Towers to overhaul regulatory frameworks governing emerging building technologies. The initiative aims to resolve legislative hurdles that currently slow the adoption of advanced construction methods by bridge-building between government regulators and private sector innovators. Regulatory Sandbox for Construction During the event on Thursday, 24 September, Dubai Municipality and the Dubai Future Foundation signed a cooperation agreement to integrate the construction sector into "Sandbox Dubai." This framework allows for the controlled testing of new technologies, products, and business models under the "Smart Built Environment" group. The partnership intends to create a clear evidence base for future policy by monitoring experimental use cases with defined success indicators. Maryam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, stated that the objective is to create "clearer pathways" for testing new ideas while maintaining strict governance.
