Indian banker Shradha Gupta reached the 8,848-metre summit years after a paragliding accident left her with a fractured spine.

Dubai resident Shradha Gupta has successfully reached the summit of Mount Everest, completing a multi-year recovery journey following a severe spinal injury. The Indian national, who works as a banker in the emirate, stood atop the world’s highest peak at 8,848 metres during the current climbing season. Recovery and Physical Rehabilitation Gupta’s ascent follows a 2017 paragliding accident in Bir Billing, India, which resulted in a fractured L1 vertebra. Following the injury, medical prognosis suggested she might face permanent mobility limitations. After undergoing surgery and extensive rehabilitation, she began a rigorous training programme in Dubai to transition from recovery to high-altitude mountaineering. Preparation and Ascent The Dubai-based banker prepared for the Himalayas by completing several high-altitude treks and technical climbs. Her training regime focused on building endurance for the "death zone," the area of the mountain above 8,000 metres where oxygen levels are insufficient for sustained human life.
