DP World links Fujairah Terminals to Jebel Ali to bypass Strait of Hormuz

DP World has integrated its Fujairah Terminals into its global logistics network, establishing a strategic bypass for cargo traditionally routed through the Strait of Hormuz to Jebel Ali Port. The expansion provides shipping lines with a mainland alternative on the UAE’s eastern seaboard, reducing transit times for vessels entering the Gulf of Oman. Strategic shift to the eastern seaboard The Fujairah facility, located outside the Strait of Hormuz, now operates as a multi-purpose hub capable of handling general cargo, containers, and Ro-Ro (roll-on/roll-off) shipments. By leveraging the Etihad Rail connection and a dedicated road corridor, DP World facilitates the movement of goods between Fujairah and Dubai’s Jebel Ali, the region’s largest transshipment hub. Operational data indicates that using Fujairah as a primary entry point can save vessels up to two days of sailing time by avoiding the navigation of the narrow Hormuz passage. This route is particularly critical for shipping lines looking to mitigate costs associated with regional maritime congestion and fluctuating insurance premiums in the Gulf.
