Dual Coast Power: DP World Reaches Milestone Agreement to Develop Two New Fujairah Terminals

Global supply chain infrastructure in the United Arab Emirates has taken a historic leap forward as logistics champion DP World reached an agreement in principle with the Fujairah Ports Authority. Under a 50-year concession, DP World will develop two major terminals on the UAE's eastern seaboard, creating a dual-coast port architecture designed to enhance trade flexibility and expand the country's cargo throughput capacity. The project introduces two strategic assets positioned outside the Persian Gulf along the Gulf of Oman: the Al Rugaylat container and multi-purpose terminal, alongside the Dibba General Cargo terminal. Once fully operational, the multi-phase development will lift DP World's total UAE handling capacity from 19.4 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEU) to nearly 22 million TEU annually. Specifically, the deep-water Al Rugaylat terminal will be engineered to accommodate the world’s largest Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCVs). It is designed to process up to 2.5 million TEU in annual container volume, alongside 1.7 million tonnes of general cargo and 190,000 Car Equivalent Units (CEU). Complementing this, the Dibba terminal will add an impressive 3.6 million tonnes of general cargo handling capacity every year.
