GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi praised the UAE’s diplomatic mediation in a new prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine on Thursday.
Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), commended the UAE on Thursday, 20 August, for facilitating a new prisoner of war exchange between the Russian Federation and Ukraine. The mediation resulted in the successful release and repatriation of detainees from both sides of the conflict. The Secretary General, speaking from Riyadh, stated that the UAE’s diplomatic intervention serves to alleviate human suffering and supports broader international efforts to reach a sustainable peaceful settlement. Albudaiwi noted that the successful exchange demonstrates the effectiveness of utilizing diplomatic channels to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the Russia-Ukraine war.
