The Republic of Cyprus has officially activated its national Public Warning System (PWS), a digital emergency infrastructure designed to broadcast real-time alerts to mobile devices across the island. Developed through a partnership between GCC Computers Ltd and the French location intelligence firm Intersec, the system allows government agencies to notify residents and visitors of imminent threats, including natural disasters and public safety emergencies. The project was spearheaded by the Cyprus Civil Defence and the Ministry of Interior to meet European Union safety regulations. The infrastructure utilizes a hybrid approach, combining Cell Broadcast (CB) technology with Location-Based SMS (LB-SMS) to ensure maximum reach regardless of mobile network congestion or device age.
