Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has completed the first implantation of a wireless heart monitor in the UAE, providing a new remote diagnostic tool for patients with advanced heart failure. This technology transmits cardiac data directly to the hospital’s heart failure team, allowing for physician intervention before physical symptoms manifest or worsen. The procedure, conducted on Monday, 27 July, involves a miniature sensor placed through the pulmonary artery. The device measures pulmonary artery pressure, which is a primary indicator of fluid buildup in the lungs—a common complication that leads to emergency hospitalizations for heart failure patients. Real-time cardiac monitoring Unlike traditional monitoring which requires patients to visit a clinic for check-ups, this wireless system allows patients to take daily readings from home.
