Cheran Bartolata wins the Al Ain Mall Championship as 119 players compete in a nine-round blitz tournament.
The Al Ain Chess and Mind Games Club concluded the Al Ain Mall Championship on Thursday, 20 August, following a tournament that drew 119 male and female competitors. The event utilized the Swiss system, with players competing across nine high-speed rounds of blitz chess. Cheran Bartolata secures victory Cheran Bartolata from the Philippines claimed first place in the overall standings after nine rounds of play. Emirati player Khalifa Talal Al Baloushi finished in second place, while Mohamed Ahmed Faraj secured the third spot on the podium. The tournament served as a platform for both established players and emerging local talent in the UAE chess community. Organisers also presented individual category honours to top-performing local participants. Ahmed Younis Al Khameeri received the award for best male player, and Al Sagheera Al Nuaimi was named the best female player of the championship. Strategic growth for Mind Games The event was held at Al Ain Mall to increase public visibility for mind games and provide competitive experience for club members. The tournament was timed to coincide with the club’s summer programming, aimed at maintaining player ratings and competitive sharpness ahead of national-level fixtures. Participants were ranked based on points accumulated through the Swiss system, a non-eliminating tournament format which ensured all 119 players completed the full nine-round cycle regardless of individual wins or losses.
