British expat Eleanor Toal has transformed a small digital community into a nationwide movement for waste reduction, with her platform "The Give & Share UAE" now reaching nearly 31,000 members. Launched in October 2021 with an initial group of 10 participants, the initiative facilitates the free exchange of household goods to prevent functional items from entering UAE landfills. Zero-Cost Circular Economy The platform operates on a strict "no selling" policy, mandateing that every item listed must be given away for free. Residents post a diverse range of goods, including furniture, electronics, clothing, and baby supplies. This model supports a circular economy by extending the lifecycle of consumer products and providing essential items to low-income workers, teachers, and families managing the rising cost of living in the Emirates. Toal established the group after observing the volume of usable items discarded during residential moves in Dubai.
