The trade dispute stems from newly enforced European Commission regulations governing the control, monitoring, and administrative verification of antimicrobial substances in livestock production. The European executive body formally removed Brazil from its list of authorized non-EU exporting nations, asserting that Brazilian authorities had failed to provide sufficient institutional guarantees that domestic meat production aligns with EU prohibitions against antibiotic growth promoters and restricted veterinary therapeutics.
