Aldar Properties and Diamond Developers have announced a $545 million (AED 2 billion) sustainable residential community on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island. The development, titled The Sustainable City – Yas Island, will consist of 864 homes designed to function with net-zero carbon emissions and 100% renewable energy sourcing. Renewable Energy and Infrastructure The project integrates solar panels on all parking structures and residential buildings to power the community. The infrastructure prioritizes a car-free environment, utilizing autonomous shuttles, electric buggies, and extensive walking paths. High-efficiency water systems and appliances are expected to reduce indoor water consumption by approximately 50% compared to standard Abu Dhabi residential benchmarks. Residential Units and On-Site Amenities The community is divided into 10 clusters containing a mix of townhouses and apartments. Amenities include an equestrian center, a gym, multiple swimming pools, and "biodomes" for indoor vertical farming.
