Abu Dhabi Police warn drivers of high-speed tyre blowouts as temperatures rise

Abu Dhabi Police issued a public safety advisory on Sunday, 19 July, warning motorists to inspect vehicle tyres regularly as rising summer temperatures increase the risk of high-speed blowouts. The authority stated that heat-related rubber degradation and incorrect air pressure are the primary causes of serious traffic accidents during the peak summer months. The warning follows data indicating that friction between road surfaces and under-inflated or damaged tyres creates excessive heat buildup, leading to structural failure. Police officials urged drivers to look for visible cracks, bulges, and tread wear, emphasizing that using expired or substandard tyres is a punishable offense under UAE traffic law. Strict penalties for faulty tyres Under Federal Traffic Law, driving a vehicle with damaged or unfit tyres carries a fine of Dh500 and four black points. Additionally, the vehicle is impounded for one week. Abu Dhabi Police confirmed that patrols are intensifying roadside inspections to identify non-compliant vehicles and remove them from the road to prevent fatal collisions. Motorists are advised to check tyre pressure only when the vehicle is "cold"—meaning it has been stationary for at least three hours or driven less than three kilometres.
