Abu Dhabi launches 13km Mussafah road upgrade to cut congestion

Abu Dhabi launched a 13-kilometre road upgrade project in Mussafah on Sunday, 11 October, featuring a new expressway and two bridges to alleviate congestion in the industrial hub. The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) confirmed the project covers critical sections of the E30 road and Street 8, enhancing connectivity between Mussafah, Mohammed bin Zayed City, and Zayed City. New Expressway and Bridge Infrastructure A central component of the development is a new expressway along Street 8, designed with three lanes in each direction. The design includes three additional lanes on either side to provide local access to commercial facilities without interrupting the main traffic flow. Upon completion, the upgraded carriageway is expected to accommodate approximately 4,000 vehicles per hour. The infrastructure plan includes two new bridges connecting Mussafah with Mohammed bin Zayed City and a dedicated pedestrian bridge to improve safety. Engineering works will also modify nine major intersections and improve four junctions along the E30, specifically targeting the connections between Street 8 and the E20 motorway.
