The 32nd Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival opened on Sunday, 16 August, drawing 2,250 players from across the globe to the UAE capital. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade, inaugurated the event, which serves as a primary fixture in the international chess calendar. Global Participation in Abu Dhabi The festival, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, features a diverse field of grandmasters and amateur competitors. The event is managed by the Abu Dhabi Chess and Mind Games Club, an organization tasked with developing local talent and managing large-scale intellectual sports competitions in the emirate. Dr. Al Zeyoudi stated during the opening ceremony that the UAE’s infrastructure and capacity to host high-profile international events have made the country a hub for sports-driven cultural exchange.
